I adore making handmade gifts! And as an avid reader, I can never seem to get enough bookmarks. Maybe it’s because I’m usually reading more than one book at a time. And maybe it’s because my favorite books are usually not fiction and have chapters and sections of great interest that I know I’ll want to return to. Whatever the reason, I would be happy if I had a basketful of bookmarks!
Here are some images randomly sourced off the internet purely for inspiration. I’ve made hundreds of paper bookmarks over the years with nothing more than scissors and some interesting paper, a glue stick and a hole punch, and some string or ribbon to thread through the hole. As the years have passed my bookmarks have evolved and become more attractive.
My personal favorite theme for a bookmark is an inspirational quote, but it can be whatever interests you. Perhaps a gardening theme with lovely photos of gardens glued onto your bookmarks. Or sheet-music paper for the musician in your life. Let your imagination run wild and know that a few minutes of your time will add a really special touch to your gift of a book you are wrapping, or even just as a separate ‘stocking stuffer’… bookmarks are little things that can make a big impact on someone’s heart. Homemade and personal…. what’s not to love?
These ideas are something anyone can do. The paperclip bookmarks are especially fun for creative stocking stuffers for your favorite reader! Just thin ribbon knotted tightly onto the end of a few large paperclips and you’ve got a great collection of flags for anyone’s latest reading.
I’ve got to tell you… I would adore getting this gift! (I hope my kids read this)
